LG&E/KU Rate Case Hearing Day 1- Public Comments
Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU) have filed for a rate increase with the Public Service Commission which would raise rates an average of 11.5% (and even more for gas customers). If approved, Residential rates will have gone up 40% and meter fees 81% in the past 10 years.
This is just the beginning of rate requests for LG&E/KU. This proposal does not include recovering the $900M+ gas plant that was approved in 2023 or any of the $3.7B in proposed new gas plants that may be approved in the current CPCN case requesting to build more new fossil fuel infrastructure. That means we’re facing an 11.5% increase in 2026, with possible increases in 2028 and 2030.
If you are concerned about these increases, consider submitting a public comment to the Public Service Commission on how these rate increases will affect YOU.
