SUMMARY:Webinar: Leveraging Existing Resources to Add New Capacity\, Quickly
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Power Plants (VPPs)\, or aggregations of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)\, have several benefits\, including enhancing grid flexibility\, affordability\, resilience\, and are also one of the fastest resources to deploy. In this session\, regulatory stakeholders will learn what VPPs are and the potential to leverage them quickly and affordably\, using existing utility investments (e.g.\, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI)) and resources already owned by Kentucky’s customers (e.g.\, battery storage\, electric vehicles\, smart thermostats\, etc.). Participants will leave the session with an understanding of the opportunities to better support the rapid deployment of VPPs in Kentucky today. \n  \nRegister: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/VCzIXeRwSmC5C3X-IrxTKw \n

SUMMARY:LG&E/KU Rate Case Hearing Day 1- Public Comments
DESCRIPTION:Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU) have filed for a rate increase with the Public Service Commission which would raise rates an average of 11.5% (and even more for gas customers). If approved\, Residential rates will have gone up 40% and meter fees 81% in the past 10 years.  \nThis is just the beginning of rate requests for LG&E/KU. This proposal does not include recovering the $900M+ gas plant that was approved in 2023 or any of the $3.7B in proposed new gas plants that may be approved in the current CPCN case requesting to build more new fossil fuel infrastructure. That means we’re facing an 11.5% increase in 2026\, with possible increases in 2028 and 2030. \nIf you are concerned about these increases\, consider submitting a public comment to the Public Service Commission on how these rate increases will affect YOU.  \nTo submit a comment and learn more about the rate case\, head over to k4ed.org/lge-ku.html  \n
